Logging an expense in CiviQ takes about 15 seconds. Here's how to do it β€” using a real example.

Example
Scenario: You just ordered biryani from Swiggy. β‚Ή380. Time to log it.
1
Tap the + button
Big blue button in the top right of any page. Or press 'N' on your keyboard (desktop shortcut).
2
Select 'Expense'
Three options appear: Expense, Income, Transfer. Tap Expense.
3
Enter the amount: 380
Just type the number. No β‚Ή symbol needed β€” CiviQ adds it automatically. For thousands, you can type 2000 or 2,000 β€” both work.
4
Type the merchant name: Swiggy
CiviQ recognises common Indian merchants and suggests the right category automatically. 'Swiggy' β†’ Food & dining. 'Ola' β†’ Transport. 'DMart' β†’ Groceries.
πŸ’‘ You can leave the name blank if you're in a hurry and edit it later from the Transactions page.
5
Select the account
Which account did this money come from? Your HDFC savings? Your PhonePe wallet? Select the right one β€” this affects your account balance.
6
Confirm the category
CiviQ suggests 'Food & dining' for Swiggy β€” which is right. If it's wrong, tap the category and pick the correct one.
7
Tap 'Add expense'
Done. The β‚Ή380 is logged. Your HDFC balance drops by β‚Ή380. Your Food & dining budget updates. The transaction appears in your feed.
πŸ” Pro tip: The fastest way to log the Swiggy expense is to message the Telegram bot while you're still waiting for the food: 'spent 380 on Swiggy'. It logs automatically. By the time the biryani arrives, it's already in your CiviQ.
